Can you use AI video commercially? Rights, likeness and disclosure, explained
“Can we actually use this in an ad?” is the first question most marketing teams ask about AI video. Usually the answer is yes, but it’s worth understanding why, and where the edges are. (This is a practical overview, not legal advice.)
Commercial use
Every Code In Motion video is delivered production-ready and cleared for commercial release, including ads, paid social, product pages, events and broadcast. We generate through commercial access to each model provider, so the outputs can be used commercially.
Ownership
Copyright in AI-generated material is still being worked out in many jurisdictions. What we can do, and do, is assign to you every right we hold in the final video once your order is paid. Your own logos, product imagery and footage stay yours throughout.
Real people and other brands
This is the firm line. We don’t generate the likeness or voice of a real, identifiable person without their documented consent, and we don’t use trademarks you don’t have rights to. If you want your founder or spokesperson in the film, that’s possible with their consent and their assets.
Disclosure
Platforms and regulators increasingly require synthetic media to be labelled, especially in advertising. The rules vary by platform and country, and they change often. Check the requirements wherever you publish. When in doubt, a simple “made with AI” label costs you nothing and protects your credibility.
A quick pre-publish checklist
Watch the whole video. Check product names, claims and on-screen text. Make sure anyone recognisable has consented. Confirm the disclosure rules for each platform. Then ship it.
